Shows with Ron Armstrong

  • September 30, 2014 22:31

I did a couple of shows with Ron Armstrong and his rootsrock band recently, his first shows since the early 70’s.
We played the Farmer’s Market at the Grove on September 27th and around the corner at Molly Malone’s the following evening. Our next show is at the Farmer’s Market again, on November 22nd, starting around 8:45pm.

We’ve built up quite a decent repertoire over the past couple of months, a nice mix of covers and originals, and I really enjoy playing with these guys!

Recording Session at Mix LA

  • September 17, 2011 13:12

I recently got the opportunity to do a session at Chris Lord Alge’s legendary MIX LA,
working with producer/engineer Keith Armstrong.

From what I understand, Mix LA was owned by Death Row Records during it’s hey-day in the 90’s, and it was here that 2Pac, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg recorded many of the songs that ended up defining the genre. Prior to that it was Can-Am Studio’s, which was where some parts of Guns & Rose’s ‘Apetite for Destruction’ were recorded, as well as many more legendary records, although information on the subject is very hard to find.

Currently it’s owned by Chris Lord Alge, who was among many other things responsible for Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’ .

I got asked by Beta Wolf’s Grant Arnow to track some stuff for his side project called ‘The Missionary Men’.
It’s pretty cool Folky/Americana/Country-esque stuff, very mellow with a great retro vibe.
All in all I had a great experience and we managed to get some amazing guitar sounds.

Update: Into The Presence

  • July 31, 2010 01:47

I have recently joined Into The Presence (Bieler Bros Records), fronted by
guitar virtuoso/singer Luis Carlos Maldonado (Glenn Hughes, UFO, Train),
cellist Ana Lenchantin (NIN, Queens of the Stoneage, Eels, A Perfect Circle),
drummer Morgan Young, and myself, taking care of bass duties.

We are currently working on the re-release of the first album, and will record
a second album before the end of the year, as well as playing local shows,.

The first album (self-titled) was received very well, and I am pretty excited
about recording the next one with them, and likely a tour in when it’s done.

More info to come soon…
